Trinamic TMC2041 - Dual-axis monolithic IC stepper motor driver
The new TMC2041 is a dual-axis stepper motor driver IC with integrated MOSFET power switches. It delivers 1.5A (peak) at 26V supply voltage per motor, making it suitable for driving motors from NEMA 8 to NEMA 17. Based on Trinamic’s high-performance spreadCycle™ chopper, it allows for precise and smooth motor operation and up to 75% energy savings using coolStep™.
The TMC2041 provides an integrated motor driver solution for 3D-Printing, Cameras, Scanners and other automated equipment applications. The device has an integrated microstepping indexer, the sensorless stall detection technology stallGuard2™, the sensorless load dependent current control coolStep™ and is intended to drive a bipolar stepper motor. The output driver block consists of low RDSon N-Channel power MOSFETs configured as full H-bridges to drive the motor windings. The TMC2041 is capable of driving up to 1.5A of current from each output (with proper heatsinking). TMC2041 is designed for a supply voltage of 5...26V. The device has a SPI interface for configuration and diagnostics and a step and direction interface.

With an easy to use step and direction interface and the option to read back a variety of diagnostics values via SPI, the TMC2041 is designed to work with common motion control algorithms. The integrated step pulse interpolation engine microPlyer™ accepts a step pulse resolution of 16 pulses per full step while interpolating the current control to 256 microsteps, resulting in superior smoothness of the motion.
The compact TMC2041 is ideally suited for office automation, 3D printers, medical applications, and other applications where machinery works in close proximity to human operators, as these environments often have strict noise limitations.
