Like its predecessor models the Com-Server LC makes it possible to incorporate a serial RS232, RS422 or RS485 device into the TCP/IP Ethernet. For the sake of simple startup and efficient operation, the emphasis is on fast and transparent tunneling of serial data using the modes COM Port Redirector, Box-to-Box and TCP socket server. The serial parameters are configured from the browser or using telnet - even full automatic when using the COM Port Redirector.
COM Port Redirector
Start up the Com-Server and configure your serial program on a virtual COM port - that’s it! The W&T COM Port Redirector, designed as a Windows kernel-mode driver, supports up to 254 virtual COM ports and redirects them into the network through a Com-Server. Your serial communication is network-ready without having to write a single line of code. Where and how far away the computer and serial devices are located no longer matters
Box-to-Box
Two Com-Servers are logically connected to each other over the network with just a few clicks, providing a transparent data tunnel through the network. All incoming serial data are sent bi-directional and as fast as possible to the other end. Reconnect functions take care of forced DSL disconnects, disturbances in the infrastructure etc. and automatically reestablish the connection to the Com-Server. Box-to-Box mode operates independently of the operating systems and devices, making it suitable for tunneling nearly all serial connections.
TCP socket server
Network programming has become part of the standard repertoire of all programmers and is supported by all commonly used development environments. Simply open a TCP connection to the Com-Server from your own program and then communicate as you like with the serial device connected there - without any drivers and with full connection control. If desired you can use this method also to directly configure the serial transmission parameters.
