RS232 Line Driver / Line Extender
The Line Driver Set 80201 connects RS232 devices over a distance of up to 1200 meters with galvanic isolation.
When transmitting data over long distances it is virtually impossible to prevent potential differences between the connected devices. These can be caused by remote lightning strikes, but even in normal operation can arise from switching operations of high-power electrical consumers. In case of a potential shift the data line is misused for compensating the voltage difference. Potential differences of only 7V can already result in faulty transmission, whereas differences of more than 30V could destroy interface components. For this reason use of a potential isolator for connections over long distances is one measure which drastically increases the life expectancy of the connected devices.
